An Urge Call For Equity…

Hi bloggers… Here comes  the inner spirit’s of the young mind, on a discrepancy between equality and equity

The terms equity and equality are sometimes used interchangeably, which can lead to confusion because while these concepts are related, there are also important distinctions between them. An important conversation I have with my friends is around the idea of equity versus equality.

What do “fairness” and “success” really mean when we know that everyone is so different?

Let me break down a bit for you.,

Equity is giving everyone their requirements to be successful. Equality is treating everyone the same.             i.e equity is fair and equality is even

Illustration:

The concept of equality demands us treat the runners in a race track in exactly the same way, ensuring that all of them start from the same place on the track. On the surface, this seems fair. That’s equality…

But we know that runners in the in between lanes have an advantage over runners in the boundary lanes that the distance they have to travel is shorter. As a result, equity  starting at the same place  doesn’t result in fairness.

Termination:

Equity cannot be achieved by treating people equally. Rather, it can be achieved by treating people in an equitable manner, i.e. as per their circumstances. Moreover, equality works, only if the starting point of every individual is same.

“Equality is giving everyone a shoe, Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits

                         Thank you.

In response to what you wrote, I agree equality is important. I teach history to make sure we have equality in the future.
